oh boy....here we go....

This morning, as usual, I heard Lana crying to get out of her crib. I went in to get her and, as usual, she said, "I ge-out?!" (translation: I get out?). Then, NOT as usual, as soon as I picked her up she started tugging at her pajamas while repeating, "off, off". She then revealed to me the power struggle to come when she said, "A dress? A dress?"

Oh, boy....or should I say...oh, what a girl!! She has been showing her preference to wear dresses for a couple of weeks now but never so strongly as this morning. Apparently, I would only wear dresses when I was little.....so I guess she is following in my footsteps.

I put her in a dress, as she requested. But, much to her dismay it was not the dress she wanted. Since I had already dressed her fully, I was not going to change her again. She proceeded to cry and run from laundry basket to laundry basket, pulling out every dress she could find and trying (unsuccessfully) to get me to put them on her.

I know I need to pick my battles but,I have said from the beginning that once she started to care what she wore, I was not going to let her have FULL reign over what she wears. So, I think I will start to pick out 2 outfits a day and let her choose which one. Then, when she gets older, I will give her 3 days a week that she can choose. Any other suggestions? I'm fighting a losing battle, hu?

All I can say Is i'm glad I don't have to deal with my boys throwing fits about what I put them in. Good luck with that.

No...you are not fighting a losing battle! Stick to your grounds...just think when you have a boy and he wants to wear a green and purple shirt with a skateboard on it to church with nice khakis! I think it will pay off in the end...choices are good, but not free reign! Ha...I can say all that cuz I don't have a kid...YET.
